Some of the priorities for major issues to focus
on this year include (this does not preclude the introduction of new issues that may bubble up):
--A major concern voiced is the high loss rate of new
and recently hired librarians. The committee has decided
to create a survey to be directed at the newer
librarians, soliciting their professional concerns in
the area of management, staffing issues, training,
security, creativity and morale. The committee is discussing the idea of creating a mentoring system to
support the newer librarians.
--revisiting circulation statistics as a measurement of library branch effectiveness and how it impacts a
branch’s or central department’s budget --creating more transparency in the selection/de-selection
of LAPL’s databases
--reestablishment of a materials selection committee
--listing YA level materials on the Children’s order
sheets only
--morale issues related to security, improperly trained
managers and dealing with deadbeat employees &
--HR
--consistency of LIII job description across regions
Your ideas on all of these issues are most welcomed.
